The 2008
Optimist International Junior Golf Championship
The Optimist Club of Glenview is sponsoring entry into the
Midwest qualifying
event to be held at Piper Glen golf club in Springfield, IL on June 10-11 of 2008. Junior golfers interested who reside in our local area may submit a
registration form for consideration . Acceptance of entries is based upon
ability, timely entry and flights. Spots are limited-prompt entry advised.
The Illinois District is pleased to announce that a second tournament has been
added on the same dates for golfers ages 10 & 11 and 12 & 13. It will be held at
Piper Glen G.C., Springfield, IL. Interested golfers may submit their
applications through the Glenview Optimist Club and received the "sponsored"
entry fee rate of $85. The 2008 Optimist International Junior Golf
Championship, (OLJGC), is scheduled
July 24-29 (Boys & Girls 10-11, 12-13, 14-15) July 29-August 3 (Boys & Girls
16-18) and will be played at
PGA National in West Palm Beach, Florida.

WHAT IS THE OIJGC?
The Optimist International Junior Golf Championships (OIJGC) is one of the
largest and most prestigious events for junior golfers ages 10-18. Each year
over 5,000 young people from the United States and Canada compete in qualifying
tournaments; there are over 650 players from 25 countries that participate in
the championship event. Players compete in the 10-11, 12-13, 14-15 and 16-18 age
divisions. (Ages are determined by the age of the participant on the last day of
the tournament. 14-15-year olds may play up in the 16-18 age division. 18-year
olds must not have started college.)
Some former participants in Optimist-sponsored events include Bubba
Dickerson, Tiger Woods, Davis Love III, Michelle McGann, Ernie Els, Justin
Leonard, Nancy Lopez, Phil Mickelson, Nick Price, Corey Pavin, Craig Stadler and
Eric Compton.
